The church has a long history of working through racial issues, with regained focus and momentum in the early 2000s, and a reframing of our response to meet the needs of our congregation and the world we live in via first a Task Force and then a Racial Justice Committee, which sponsored a number of programs to educate and work on racial justice issues.
In 2017 we were proud to hang a BLACK LIVES MATTER banner outside our church grounds; despite being vandalized at least four times, it still stands proudly.

In the summer of 2020 we set up a new Racial Justice Council to oversee all our efforts. This group is now focused on three areas:

  1. Cultural literacy, including speaker programs and a bi-weekly #BLM movie discussion group
  2. xxx
  3. xxxx

Members of the Council help to expand the congregation’s awareness of the real and harmful effects of racism through ongoing reading and discussion groups, film showings, and speakers. We are also connecting with community groups working on racial justice in Bridgeport and elsewhere.
